DODGEVILLE - Joan M. Kirkpatrick, age 91, passed away on April 10, 2024, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital -Madison. She was born on May 18, 1932; the daughter of Leo Sr. and Mildred (Heibel) Dochnal. Joan Graduated from Dodgeville High School and lived in Dodgeville until 1964, when she married Richard Kirkpatrick. Joan and Richard resided in Monfort for forty years. She later moved back to Dodgeville to be closer to her family. Richard and Joan had three children: son, Richie Kirkpatrick and twin daughters, Jodi Whitcher and Jana Lengyel.
Joan was a good person, she liked spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her siblings – she loved being with family. She was quiet and kind and talked about the good old memories of when all the families came together for beautiful Christmas celebrations at the big old house on Walnut Street. How lucky we are to have such great memories of her.
Joan had great faith. Its how she got through life. Her favorite prayer was the rosary. Through her faith and by the grace of God, Joan was able to get through hard times and good times. She truly loved life.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Jana Lengyel; five grandchildren: Cody (Whitney) Kirkpatrick, Cade (Shaylee LAST) Kirkpatrick, Brady and Tristan Bourret, and Landon Lengyel; four great grandchildren: Grayson, Lennon and Banks Kirkpatrick, and Drake Allen; sister, Janice (Howard) Rideout; brother in-law, Jim Kirkpatrick; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; father in-law, Forest (Wilma) Kirkpatrick; daughter, Jodi Whitcher; son, Richie Kirkpatrick; dear grandson, Brady Bourret; sisters in-law: Dorothy and Jeanette Kirkpatrick and Jean Dochnahl; nephew, Kevin Cleary; D.A. Larry Nelson; niece Diane Bindl; siblings: Darlene (Bob) Reilly, Eileen (Gene) Nelson, Marilyn (Jim) Cleary, Leo Jr., Gary Dochnahl; and brother in-law, Leo Meudt.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Berger, who was Joan’s doctor for five years and always so kind. Thank you to St Mary’s for being so kind and Upland Hills E.R. who took good care of her. Thank you to Upland Hills Health nursing home and rehab where they were all so good to her: she loved them all and the feeling was mutual – she loved it there. Thank you to the priests over the years in both Montfort and Dodgeville. Thank you to the priests who gave Joan her last rites at St. Mary’s Hospital. A huge thank you to Mary Hughes and Rita Esch, who brought Joan Sacrament of Communion every week and for their kind words. Thank the Lord for taking her gently. She might be gone from us, but never forgotten.
