Jim H. Winkers

Jim H. “Moose” Winkers, age 83, of Onalaska and formerly of Fennimore, died on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his residence in Onalaska. Jim was born on Jan. 4, 1934 in Wingville, WI the son of Henry J. and Louisa (Fritsch) Winkers. He married Judy Vogel on April 28, 1962.

Jim graduated from Montfort High School with the class of 1952. He worked as a carpenter all his life, taking great pride in his work. He also served in the US Army with the medics. Jim and his wife Judy lived in Fennimore all of there married lives until moving to Onalaska to be closer to family within the past year. He was a history buff and had an interest in music, playing trumpet in the Fennimore German Band. Jim was an excellent husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. His ability to fix anything, teasing sense of humor and calming presence will forever be cherished.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Judy, of Onalaska; two daughters, Amy Reedy of West Salem and Angela Winkers of La Crosse; his famous five grandchildren, Michael, Hannah (Fiancé Cameron Robaczewski), Noah and Meghann Reedy and Cody Winkers; brothers Donald (Marilyn) Winkers of Montfort and Bob (Donna) Winkers of Bloomington as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kathryn Kmit and Kathleen Winkers.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Friday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2017, at the Fennimore United Methodist Church. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Friday. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Jim H. Winkers.
