Jeffrey “Jeff” P. Cornell

FENNIMORE Jeffrey “Jeff” Paul Cornell, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 30, 2025. Born on October 12, 1959, to Norman “Spud” and Marcella (Turner) Cornell, Jeff grew up in Cassville and graduated from Cassville High School. He earned a welding degree from Southwest Technical College in Fennimore. After working as a farm hand, Jeff began a 45-year career with Rayovac. He was united in marriage to Tara Fivecoat on September 7, 2007, in Las Vegas, NV.

Mechanical work came naturally to Jeff—he could fix just about anything. HVAC was his specialty, and there wasn't a tool he didn't have.

In addition to his years at Rayovac, Jeff was the proud owner and operator of Jeff’s Bar & Grill in Fennimore.  Jeff never missed a chance to cheer on the Badgers or the Packers—especially during the Brett Favre era. Sundays were reserved for football and good company at the bar. He especially enjoyed hosting the band "Swing Crew". He was an active member of the Wisconsin Tavern League.

Outside of work, Jeff worked.

He enjoyed golfing, taking Ranger rides through the countryside, and cruising on his motorcycle. He played softball, participated in pool leagues, and treasured the friendships that came with it.

Closer to retirement his "happy place" was the River of Lakes Campground in Bagley WI, where he spent many hours surrounded by good friends and great conversation. He shared a special bond with friends Marilyn Venden, Mary Gleason, Donita “Blondie” Blackburn, and George Cauffman.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Tara Fivecoat Cornell of Boscobel; his son and best buddy, Garrett of Platteville; his brother Marty (Anita) Cornell of Waunakee; sisters Sue (Andy) Fritz of Lancaster and Marilyn Degenhardt of Hazel Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Doug and Dan Cornell; brother-in-law Frank Degenhardt; and cherished niece and nephew, Sonya and Chad Specht.
