Platteville – James D. Harris, age 82, died on Saturday Feb. 6, 2016 at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. James was born on April 12, 1933 in Bagley, WI the son of Carson and Dorothy (Markley) Harris. He married Dorothy Larson on Nov. 14, 1998.
Following graduation from Bagley High School, James joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War from Jan. 1954 to Jan. 1956. After returning home, he farmed outside of Lancaster. He began driving semi over the road as an owner operator in 1977 and continued driving into his late 70’s. J.D. traveled all of the lower 48 states and in recent years enjoyed traveling with his wife Dorothy. J.D. enjoyed playing Euchre in several card clubs throughout the area and loved to tell stories. He was a very loving man whose devotion to family will forever be cherished.
James is survived by his wife Dorothy Larson-Harris of Platteville, step-children Deborah (Paul) Fritz of Stockton, IL and Terry (Maggie) Larson of Dubuque, IA, three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, 12 step-grandchildren, sisters Janette (Owen) Meyer of Eau Claire, WI and June (Rich) Kleinheinz of Poynette, WI and brother Jerry (Pat) Knight of Bloomington, WI.
James was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Barb Harris, daughter Nancy Brunton, and step-son Leonard Larson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday Feb. 11, 2016 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. Pastor Paul Fritz will be officiating. Burial of the cremains with military honors will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Thursday morning.
