Mt Hope, WI-James D. Collins, age 64, died unexpectedly on Monday afternoon November 17, 2014 at his residence in Mt. Ida Township, rural Mt. Hope, WI. James was born on June 7, 1950 in Lancaster, WI, the son of Frank and Mary (Leighton) Collins. He married Robin Johnson on July 9, 1983 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gays Mills, WI.
Jim was very dedicated to his work and the animals on the farm. He truly loved farming and everything it entailed. It was normal routine for him to make a trip to the barn in the middle of the night to check on a calving heifer. Jim also really enjoyed deer and coon hunting, cheering on the Packers, and going out to eat. His favorite was the salad bar at Huckleberry’s in Prairie du Chien. Jim cherished the time spent and memories made with all his family and friends on the farm. His shyness, kind heart, and soft-spoken demeanor will always be remembered.
Jim is survived by his wife Robin of Mt. Hope, two children; Mike Collins and Kaleena (Andrew) Collins-Fosselman both of Mt. Hope, three grandchildren; Kelecia, Kaleigha, and Tiden, three brothers; Robert (Diane) Collins of Mt. Hope, John (Rosemary) Collins of Fennimore, and Danny Collins of Lancaster. He is also survived by two sisters; Evelyn (Bill) Bauer of Galena, IL, and Nancy (Ed) Zimpel of Racine, WI, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew Jason Collins. He was very loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday November 20, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fennimore with burial to follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church Cemetery in Mt. Hope Township, Grant Co., WI.
