Emmeline J. Brun

Ammeline J (1)Emmeline J. Brun, age 100, of Rochester, MN entered eternal life on July 25, 2016 after a brief stay at Samaritan Bethany Rehabilitation. Emmeline has made her home at the Shorewood Senior Campus in Rochester for the last eight years. She married Gordon Brun, April 27, 1940, and the two of them farmed near Livingston, Wisconsin for over 50 years.

She was born September 5, 1915 in Livingston, Wisconsin, the oldest child of six to Luetta and Mortimer Allen. Emmeline graduated from Livingston High School and then attended Madison Vocational school before returning to Southwest Wisconsin where she married Gordon. Emmeline and Gordon began farming near Stitzer, Wisconsin and then moved to a farm near Livingston in 1945. It was here they farmed until full retirement in 1983. Emmeline felt fortunate to enjoy 35 winters at Deserama, Mesa, Arizona. Riding a bike, learning to swim, shuffleboard, and many dances were part of enjoyable life.

Emmeline took pride in her Midwestern heritage. Emmeline was active as a homemaker on the farm cooking for large thrashing crews in the 40’s and 50’s to doing her share of dairy milking and always taking care of “her” chickens . She was a dedicated member of the Livingston United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and Iowa County Homemakers. For many years she loved creating ceramics and a variety of craft items and became excellent at crocheting.   Gordon and she enjoyed traveling the United States plus they had fun seeing Mexico, and Europe with their lifetime friends, the Grunow’s. Emmeline was always ready for a good game of Bridge and always looking for people ready to play. She always thoroughly enjoyed family picnics and gatherings at holidays with the extended family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was always willing to help where needed.

Emmeline is survived by one son, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Brun of Fort Meyers, FL, Three Grandchildren, Daniel (Susie) Brun of Rockford, MN, Andrea Brun of Edgewater, Co, and Bryan Brun or Denver, Co. She is also survived by six great grandchildren; Everett, Sophia, Harrison, Charlie, Lorelei, and Courtney. She has been preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, of 51 years, her three younger brothers, Keith, Walt and Don Allen, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Harris and Ruth Weittenhiller and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Livingston United Methodist Church with burial following at the Rock Church Cemetery. Pastor Ty Hines will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Friday evening, July 29, 2016 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Saturday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund established in loving memory of Emmeline will benefit the Rock Church Cemetery Association. The family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Bethany for loving care and compassion shown to Emmeline.
