Stitzer/Poynette, WI-Elinor A. “Ellie” Barr, age 82, died on Thursday May 26, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Ellie was born on July 14, 1933 in Stitzer the daughter of Edwin G. & Edna F. (Becker) Briel. She grew up in Stitzer and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Glenn Barr on March 24, 1956 in Liberty Township Grant Co., WI.
Ellie was a devoted member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she served on the church council and played organ for many years and she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Fennimore. In addition to being a homemaker, Ellie worked as a bartender and cook at numerous establishments in the area where she made many friends over the years. Ellie loved cooking, playing cards with friends and family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.
Ellie is survived by her four children; Martha (David) Dyer of Wartburg, TN, Matt Barr (Angie Smith) of Madison, Miriam Barr (Dale Michelic) of Lyons, IL; Mary (Ron) Moen of Poynette, WI; three grandchildren Jordan Dyer, Jeremy and Trevor Moen; a great grandchild, Maggie Adkins, several brother and sister-in-laws; Mary Briel of Wyalusing, Pat Mumm of Cassville, Tom (Sue) Barr of Dodgeville, Bonnie (Larry) Laufenberg of Lancaster, Jim Cooley of Prairie du Chien, along with several nieces and nephews.
Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn on March 4, 2004, two sisters; Catherine Mason and Margaret Frink, and a brother David Briel.
A very special thanks to all her friends and relatives who assisted her during her last few years around her house, running errands, and taking her to various appointments. She was so appreciative of the efforts of all of you. And the family would also like to thank the staff at Country Terrace in Poynette for taking care of her during the last couple of years.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday June 3, 2016 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Liberty Township Grant Co., WI with burial of cremated remains to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. Thursday June 2, 2016 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Friday morning. A memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Ellie A. Barr.
