Dorothy Doan, age 84 of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Fennimore, died on Wed. August 27, 2014 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. Dorothy was born on June 26, 1930 in Werley, WI the daughter of J. Leonard and Monica (Meinertz) Fry. She married Royce Doan on July 17, 1948.
Following graduation from Fennimore High School, Dorothy worked as an operator at the Fennimore Telephone Company. After her marriage to Royce, Dorothy did the bookkeeping for her husband’s fuel oil business until their retirement. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida and her summer months at their home on the river in Prairie du Chien. Dorothy enjoyed cheering on the Badgers and Packers, getting together with family and friends. She especially looked forward to her visits with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Dorothy was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien and had been currently residing at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society since April of 2014.
Dorothy is survived by her three children; Kathy (Jim) Griswold of Fennimore, John (Vickie) Doan of Viroqua, and Jane (Navarre) Henkel of Fennimore, 6 grandchildren; Charity (Marty) Bray of Fennimore, Robert Griswold of Fennimore, Michael (Erin Donahue) Henkel of Mindoro, WI, Andy (Christine) Griswold of Plainfield, IL, Jason (Carrie) Schumacher of Viroqua, and Joe (Holly) Griswold of Fennimore, 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister Leora Kolar of Platteville.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Royce on Oct. 21, 1997, grandson Jeffrey Doan on Jan. 15, 2004, and sister Betty Gilbertson.
A public graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday Sept. 1, 2014 in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore. Pastor Joe Irvin of St. Peter Evangelical Luther Church in Prairie du Chien will be officiating.
