Daniel Bryan Knutson

Daniel Bryan Knutson, age 70, of Montfort passed away on Friday morning April 3, 2020 at his residence. He was born on May 23, 1949 in Dodgeville the son of Bryan “Nip” and Jane (Loy) Knutson. He was united in marriage to Zoe Zimple on Aug. 13, 1999 in Fennimore.

Dan was raised on a farm outside of Livingston. After graduating from high School, he attended U.W. Madison but then entered the United States Navy. He served from 1968 until 1970 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving aboard the USS Brooke. He patrolled the Mekong Delta on the Saigon River in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Dan returned home and drove delivery truck for the 7-Up Distributor in Fennimore. He was later employed at Tri-State Breeders of Westby, until starting his business Knute’s Floor Cleaning for several years. He later became a supervisor at Walnut Hollow of Dodgeville.

He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, playing cards, and social outings with friends and family. He was always cheering on the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers along with making time to play a round of golf. Dan adored his grandchildren and loved to watch them compete in sports. Around home, he liked watching westerns, listening to music and spending time with Molly Mae. Being very proud of his service to his country and waiting very patiently, one of his fondest memories in life was the opportunity to be a part of the Wisconsin Honor Flight this past fall. He enjoyed life and will be remembered for his dry sense of humor along with his quick wit.

Dan is survived by his wife Zoe of Montfort, two daughter; Dani (Pat) Leick of Cottage Grove, MN, Chas (Kyle) Kinney of Fennimore, six grandchildren; Madelyn, Morgan, and Finley Leick, and Jude, Rowan, and Elin Kinney, brother Gilbert (Cindy) Knutson of Livingston along with many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Vaudy Lynn Knutson.

Honoring Dan’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial services at this time. After restrictions are lifted from the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will plan a celebration of Dan’s life to be held at the Sheddy’s Bar and Grill in Montfort. The family appreciates Dr. Sara Rybarcyzk and the Upland Hills Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion.
