Clarice Marion Calhoun, age 91, of Fennimore, died on Wednesday morning Nov. 16, 2016, at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. Clarice was born Aug. 10, 1925 in Brooklyn, WI, the only child of Philip and Mabel (Olson) Johnson.
She worked at Cuna Mutual Insurance before marrying he high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Calhoun on Feb. 17, 1945. They farmed in the Brooklyn-Stoughton area for 10 years. After Bill became a State Trooper, they moved to Fennimore in Dec. 1956. Clarice was a cashier at Eiseles Supermarket for 12 ½ years and manager of the Fennimore Meal Site for the elderly for 14 years. She sang publicly since age 5 and enjoyed her choir years in Evansville, Brooklyn and Fennimore Lutheran Churches, also membership in WELCA.
Clarice’s grandchildren gave her and Bill great pleasure in their retirement. She enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, her dear friends and traveling. She and Bill made three trips to Australia.
Clarice is survived by her five beloved children; Alan (Lois) Calhoun of Western Australia, Linda Calhoun Dresser of Fennimore, Julie (Gary) Gilman of Madison, Kenneth Calhoun (Isabelle Girard) of Madison and Chris (Lisa) Calhoun of Stitzer. Also four grandchildren; Bruce (Amanda) Calhoun of Western Australia with children Lauren and Emily, Rachel Calhoun of Western Australia, Carrie Calhoun and husband Jon Wenzel of Fitchburg and Carly Calhoun of Fennimore and many special Calhoun relatives.
Clarice was preceded in death by her mother in 1950, her father in 1977, her stepmother Amy in 1991, her son-in-law David Dresser in 1998 and her husband Bill in 1998.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday Nov. 19, 2016 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening Nov. 18, 2016 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning.
