Beverly Jean Porter

On Friday September 11, 2020 Beverly Jean (Freymiller) Porter, age 84, of Fennimore died after a brief illness of liver cancer.

She was born April 11, 1936 on the family farm in Mt. Ida Township Grant County, WI the daughter of Walter and Frances (Stenner) Freymiller. She graduated from Fennimore High School and then worked at the ASCS in Lancaster doing clerical duties. Beverly was united in marriage to George Porter on August 19, 1957. After supporting 2 years of dad’s military service in the US Marine Corps, they purchased the Porter family farm in Shaw Hollow Fennimore. First as progressive dairy farmers, then retiring after beef farming. Beverly loved working next to her husband and family on the farm.

Mom spent several decades as Golden Gates 4-H leader, was very active as a ‘church lady’, Farm Bureau and the Steven’s Ministries with the United Methodist Church. She loved to cook, decorate cakes, and had a new passion for quilting. Meeting friends and playing a card game was always on the agenda.

Survivors are children Betty (Mike) Heuer Montgomery City MO, Donita (Bob) Pooley Marshfield MO, Dean (Susan) Porter Bloomington WI, Michael (Nancy) Porter Fennimore WI, five grandchildren; Nicole Pooley, Vanessa Verser, Matthew (Stephanie) Porter, Steven (Rachel) Porter, Danielle (Shane) Peterson, five great grandchildren; Andrew, Farrah, Jackson, Tyus, Lincoln, and soon to be Connor, siblings Joyce Sander, Sharlene (Larry) Shultz, and Nordell Freymiller, along with many special nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents Walter and Frances Freymiller, father and mother-in-law Herman and Mildred Porter, husband George, grandson-in-law Lynden Verser, brother-in-law Wes Sander and sister-in-law Caroline Freymiller.

Mom was an amazing person, who taught us to work hard, be fair and loving, and the importance of faith. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held outside at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday September 16, 2020 at the Porter family farm located at 4708 Robin Road, Fennimore, WI 53809. Burial will follow in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore. A catered meal and a time of fellowship for family and friends will follow back at the Porter farm. Please bring a lawn chair and social distancing will be practiced. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the farm on Wednesday morning. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family.
