Betty J. Cathman, age 90 of Fennimore, died on Friday morning April 13, 2018 at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. She was born on Dec. 5, 1927, in Bagley, WI, the daughter of Charles and Anna Mae (Hoffman) Moore. Betty was united in marriage to Burdette Cathman on June 19, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
After graduation from high school, Betty received her teaching degree from Platteville Teachers College. She taught in country schools throughout the Bagley and area until her marriage to Burdette. Together they farmed in Potosi for a year, and then in the Boscobel area for four years. Purchasing their farm in Hickory Grove Township, they farmed for 61 years. Being a true farmers wife, Betty loved working on the farm, milking the cows, tending to her garden and canning. She also enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Black Hills South Dakota. Betty was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and her dedication to family, nurturing ways and love for her grandchildren will be cherished forever.
Betty is survived by three children and 11 grandchildren; Cindy (Ed) Runde of Stitzer and their six children; Philip and Joseph Giesen, Samantha (Derek) Raisbeck, Dakota Runde (Shantelle Reuter), Audrie (David) Post, Lexi Runde; Carl Cathman of Fennimore; and Burdell (Sheila) Cathman of Fennimore and their five children; Kyle (Shannon) Cathman, Kody (Kayla) Cathman, Brittany, Kale, and Luci Cathman, and seven great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burdette on April 30, 2011, granddaughter Stephanie Mae Giesen, brother Melvin Moore, and sister Muriel Uridil.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Bethel Cemetery in Hickory Grove Township, Grant Co., WI. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Monday evening April 16, 2018, at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Tuesday morning.
