Kenneth J. “Skeeter” Moen, age 84, of Livingston, WI quietly passed away on Tuesday, Feb 15th, 2022, at Crestridge Assisted Living Facility in Dodgeville, WI.
He was born in Wilmington, DE, on Sept 30th, 1937, to Ken and Pauline (Holmes) Moen. Eighteen days later, Pauline died and her parents, Winnie and Harvey Holmes, boarded a train for DE, picked him up and brought him back to Cobb, WI, where Skeeter lived with them, until he went to college. He was united in marriage to Kay Rundell in 1960, and they settled in Livingston. They welcomed twin daughters, Kim and Kelly, and a son, Kirk.
Skeeter joined the Livingston Co-op Oil Company in 1961 and was there for more than 30 years. After retirement, he did some part-time work for the Winona Monument and Dodgeville Monument Companies, as well as Rural Route 1.
Skeeter loved the small southern Wisconsin community and enjoyed volunteer work. He coached several little league teams, girls softball and high-school boys baseball. He was a volunteer fireman for the Livingston-Clifton Fire Department, a member of the Livingston Village Board and an active member of the Livingston United Methodist Church. Later in life, he became a volunteer for Upland Hills Health, for several years.
Skeeter was an avid baseball fan and displayed a talent for pitching. A talent scout saw one of his games and connected him with the Milwaukee Braves, now the Atlanta Braves, for a couple of try outs. Unfortunately, they were looking for left-handed pitchers at the time. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Skeeter enjoyed attending many, many trips to Wrigley Field as well as a few trips to Chicago Cubs Spring Training in Mesa, AZ.
Skeeter is survived by his wife, Kay, his children, Kim Griffiths, Kelly Rux and Kirk Moen, two grandchildren, Travis (Chelsie) Rux and Jessica Rux, and eight great grandchildren: Hunter Judd, Cameron Judd, Jeran Rux, Surie Rux, Dayne Rux, Chloe Rux, Jericho Rux and Jeralyn Rux...as well as many cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Friends and family can express their condolences on Sunday, Feb 20th, 2022, from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb 21st, at 11:00 AM at the Livingston United Methodist Church in Livingston with visitation from 10:00 AM to time of service. Pastor Kristen Lowe will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Church Cemetery rural Livingston.
A special thank you to the entire staff at Crestridge Assisted Living Facility (Memory Care) in Dodgeville, as well as Agrace Hospice and Supportive Care.
