James W. Harpin

James W. Harpin, age 69, of Midwest City, OK formerly of Bagley, WI passed away on Saturday March 27th, 2021. He was born Sept. 12, 1951 in Lancaster, WI, to parents Carl Harpin and C. LaVon Kirschbaum. A 1969 graduate of Cassville High School, he went on to study at UW-Platteville before joining the military in service to his country. Jim was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and served at the following duty stations: U-Tapau Thailand; Tinker AFB OK; Anderson AFB Guam; Lackland AFB San Antonio,TX.; Offutt AFB Omaha NE; and Randolf AFB San Antonio, TX. He was an active member of the American Legion and served as office manager for the Department of Oklahoma. Jim was an avid darts player, geocacher, train enthusiast and a songbird. He loved singing in the church choir. His deep voice made him a natural for calling bingo at the Legion Post, another job he greatly enjoyed. His varied interests took him across the United States having visited all 50 whether while in the military, as an over-the-road trucker, or a geocacher. 

He is survived by half-brothers and sisters: Jeff (Deann) Schurman, Joanie (Delane Moomey) Dickerson, Janet (Craig) Iverson, Julia Warrington, Wayne Harpin, David Harpin, and Gregg Harpin; nieces and nephews; special friend LaRene Carpenter, along with numerous cousins and a plethora of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Jacob J. "Jake" Schurman, and brothers John and Jerome Harpin.

A mass of remembrance for James and his mother, Catherine "LaVon" Schurman will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington, WI with Father John Meinholz officiating. A celebration of their lives with food and time of fellowship will follow in the church basement. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family.
