George Francis Hrubes Sr.

George F. Hrubes, Sr., 67 of Montfort, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on August 3, 1952 in Dodgeville the son of John and Dorothy (Kratochwill) Hrubes. He graduated from Fennimore High School in 1970.

George married Jeanna Arms on September 9, 1978 in Boscobel. They had two sons George Jr. and Eric. Together they raised a nephew and niece, Billy and Michell Haberkorn.

George farmed on the home farm and milked until 1992. They transitioned to beef cattle and they continued to farm as a family. He worked for Pat and Connie Shemak at the Castle Rock Inn. He then purchased the Castle Rock Inn in 1996, which he owned and operated until 2014. George enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, farming with his sons and always enjoyed pulling a prank on family and friends.

George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeanna, two sons; George Jr. “Bear” (Ashleigh) Hrubes and Eric (Jessica) Hrubes, nephew Billy and niece Michell Haberkorn, grandchildren; Rilya and Ryker Hrubes, Avery and Oliver Hrubes, Brandon Kipper, Carter and Layla Haberkorn, brother; John (Sue) Hrubes of Platteville, twin sister Helen Heisz of Albany, special nephew, Mike (Jean) Orr of Dodgeville, brother and sisters-in-law; Jack (Cheryl) Arms of Mesa, AZ, Sue Friederick of Fennimore, Roger Arms of Green Bay, Debbie Schmidt of Gotham, June (Larry) Landon of Muscoda, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends, including his special friend and fishing buddy, Ray (Diane) Guenther of Fennimore and Doug White of Muscoda.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Johnny and Lois Arms, a stepdaughter Michell Wright, two sisters; Alice (Louie) Larson, Mary Theresa Hrubes, in-laws; Don, Jim (Judie) and David Arms, Judy (Bill) Haberkorn.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family requested that no formal memorial services to be held at this time. A Celebration of Life in memory of George Hrubes Sr. will be held at a later date. Memorials and cards of sympathy may be sent to the Larson Family Funeral Home at 925 10th St. Fennimore, WI 53809.
