Marcella G. Stenner, age 97, of Fennimore passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society, where she resided for many years.
Marcella was born on August 22, 1921 the daughter of Oren and Ruth (Fingerson) Rossing. She was baptized at Otter Creek Lutheran Church in Highland. She graduated as salutatorian from Livingston High School in 1939 and worked for local families until her marriage to Raymond “Barney” Stenner on March 19, 1941.
Marcella started her marriage on the Stenner family farm in rural Mt. Ida, until the family moved to Fennimore in 1947. She worked at Parker Pen in Fennimore for several years. She was the bookkeeper for the Fennimore Silo Company as it grew as a family business.
Marcella was a dedicated housewife and mother to her two children and grandchildren. Her grandkids brought her such delight and she was proclaimed to be “an awesome grandma” many times. She spent time with her siblings, and showed up at the family reunions with her famous custard pie. She enjoyed being active in the local saddle club and the Smoke Eating Snow Squirrel Snowmobile club. She loved to fish and boat ride on the Mississippi River. She bowled for 30 years with her many friends. Her gardens were full of flowers and produce to eat. She thoroughly enjoyed a good party and was known to host great card parties with plenty of good food. Watching the Packers and Brewers were a must. A strong supporter of our country and community, she enjoyed engaging in lively political debates and contributed to the building of the St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society and the Plattner Clinic (Gunderson BAHC) during their campaign efforts. She served St. Peter Lutheran Church as a faithful member and Sunday school teacher. Her love of traveling took her to Norway, many states in the US, frequent trips to Arizona and to South Padre Texas as a Winter Texan for 18 years.
Marcella is survived by her two children; Royce Stenner of Buckeye, AZ and Vicki (Don) Marish of Fennimore, grandchildren; Robert (Susan) Stenner of Fennimore, Carol Stenner of Buckeye, AZ, Roland (Theresa) Stenner of Avondale, AZ, Kathleen (Oscar) Robinson of Avondale, AZ, Dr. Jason (Cheryl) Marish of New London, Brian (Abigail) Marish of DeForest, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, brother Garald (Marion) Rossing of Fennimore, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Virgil and infant twin brothers Robert and Ralph Rossing. Her siblings and their spouses; Lauren and Eleanor Rossing, Curtis and Lenys Rossing, Viola and Frederick Stich, her loving husband Raymond of 56 years, his siblings and their spouses; Wilma and Lawrence Ruchti, Florence and Frank Kephart, Lloyd and Glady Stenner, Alice and Clayton Bloyer, Delbert and Flossie Stenner and daughter-in-law Mary Stenner.
Funeral service and celebration of Marcella’s life will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday Nov. 3, 2018 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Kristi Ursin will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Saturday morning. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society and the St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care. Memorials may be giving to the Sugar Creek Bible Camp or to your favorite charity in loving memory of Marcella G. Stenner. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
