Royce W. Everson, age 88 of Woodman, died on Monday July 16, 2018 at Hillview Healthcare Center in La Crosse, WI. Royce was born on June 25, 1930 in Annaton, WI the son of Wesley and Laura (Witzig) Everson. He married Sharon Dempsey on Feb. 26, 1955 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church.
After high school, Royce farmed for a year before entering the U.S. Navy in 1950. He served as a gunner 3rd class aboard the U.S. Taluga during the Korean War, serving a total of 37 months overseas and crossing the ocean 13 times. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 3, 1954 and received several service medals. Upon returning home, Royce farmed for 50 years in Marion Township. He enjoyed playing cards and pool, dancing, and working as a bartender at the Werley Tavern for several years. Royce was a well-liked guy who was always up for having a good time. His dedication to family and farming will forever be remembered.
Royce is survived by his three children; Robert (Kathy) Everson of Fennimore, Suzette Everson and Stacey Everson (Justin Lambert) both of La Crosse, five grandchildren; Nicole Waterman, Matthew and Benjamin Everson, Samuel Hyde and Brandtson and Severyn Lambert and four great-grandchildren.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon and brother Donald Everson.
In following Royce’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Bethel Cemetery in Hickory Grove Township, Grant Co., WI. A gathering to celebrate the life of Royce W. Everson will be held from 12-4 P.M. on Sunday August 19, 2018 at the Hilltop in Fennimore. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
