R. Joseph “Joe” Pluemer, age 83, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, formerly of Montfort, WI, passed away Thursday April 26, 2018, at his home in Fort Walton Beach, FL with his family by his side. Joe was born June 30, 1934 in Harrison Township, Platteville, WI the son of Andrew and Lorraine (Fuerstenberg) Pluemer.
Joe joined the United States Army where he served his country in the Korean War in 1952. After returning home, he was united in marriage to Patsy R. Matthews on Aug. 19, 1961. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2004. They farmed in Rewey until moving to Montfort in 1969. Joe worked for John Deere in Dubuque, IA from 1972- 1995. He owned and operated R&P Floor Service in Montfort until he retired in 2005. Upon his retirement, Joe moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL where he met and was united in marriage to Charlotte Potts on August 23, 2008.
Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing, collecting John Deere tractors and was an avid Packers and Badgers fan. He loved spending time with his grandsons and traveling across the country with his family. He was a member of the Montfort VFW and volunteered as an EMT for many years.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Charlotte of Fort Walton Beach, FL, his children; twin daughters Sherri (Dave) Soderberg of Pittsville, and Terri (Steve) Pavloski of Tomah, son Garry (Karen) Pluemer of Lancaster, step daughter Misty (John) Trumbull of Lebanon, TN; six grandsons, Keith Soderberg, John (Kristen) Soderberg, Craig (Lori) Jones, Nick Pluemer, Brandon (Nikkole) Pluemer, and Andy (Allyssa) Pluemer, step granddaughter, Kirsten Trumbull, six great grandchildren, sister Shirley (Robert) Place of Livingston, special friends Rebecca Gerecke and Mike (Carla) Paulman and many special nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patsy, son Perry, brother Jim and sister Gerry (John) Matson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday May 19, 2018, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort with burial of the cremains to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning. The Soman-Larson Funeral Home of Montfort is assisting the family.
