George C. Conley, age 89, of Fennimore, died on Saturday morning March 24, 2018, at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. George was born on Sept. 7, 1928, at home in Woodman Township, Grant Co., WI the son of Clem and Clara (Graser) Conley. He married Shirley Arneson on July 1, 1953 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church.
After graduating from Mt. Hope High School, George farmed in Woodman Township for 52 years until moving into Fennimore in 2005 due to declining health. In addition to farming, George worked at Kussmaul Seeds during harvest time for many years and at Eastman Cartwright in Lancaster. He loved the outdoors and was most at home in the woods around the farm. In his younger years he loved playing softball, bowling and woodworking and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, gathering as a family for Christmas and playing cards. George was a past member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church Council and Scenic Rivers (formerly REA) Board of Directors.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years; Shirley of Fennimore; six children and 14 grandchildren, Pam Conley of Fennimore and her son Trevor Lyster, Dennis (Ellen) Conley of Fennimore and their children Emilee Scheid and Josh Conley, Brian Conley (Darlene Howell-Coffey) of Fennimore and his children Ben and Brandon Conley and Madeline Bode, Diane (Roger) King of Holman and their children Ryan, Nathan, Trey and Drew King, LuAnn (Paul) Fuerstenberg of DeForest and their children Derek, Sarah and Jacob Fuerstenberg, Mark Conley of Waterloo, WI, and his daughter Sophia Conley; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, David (Ruth) Conley of Fennimore, Art (Carolyn) Conley of Prairie du Chien, Greg (Betty) Conley of Woodman and Peter Conley of Beloit.
George was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Lacey Conley and Breanne (Conley) Klar; infant brother John Conley and sisters Rita Kretschman, Lorene Casper and Rachael Guernsey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 2, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fennimore with burial to follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church Cemetery in Mt. Hope Twsp. Grant County, WI. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Sunday evening April 1, 2018, at Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00-10:30 A.M. on Monday morning at the funeral home.
