BOSCOBEL – Sara J. Strang, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 26, 2025, at home with her family by her side. She was born on April 13, 1950, the daughter of Maurice and Anne (Waterman) Leffler.
Sara grew up in Fennimore and graduated with the Fennimore High School class of 1968, where she formed a very special bond with a group of girlfriends, that lasted a lifetime. She deeply cherished the time they got to spend together recently. Shortly after graduating high school, Sara married the love of her life, Larry Strang on April 5, 1969, at the Fennimore United Methodist Church.
Sara and Larry eventually moved to Boscobel, where they remained a welcome presence in the community. Sara spent time on the Boscobel City Council and the Boscobel Public Library Board. She was a strong supporter of the Boscobel Fire Department throughout Larry’s many years of service. Whether it was helping at events, working on fundraisers, or simply being there for the fire family, she gave her time and heart to a cause that meant so much to her and her family.
Sara spent her early years doing what she loved most, being a mother. She stayed home when her children were young, running an in-home daycare while raising her kids. When her kids were a little bit older, she went to work at Waltz Inn for many years, where she perfected her gift of gab with her favorite customers. In the fall of 1987, Sara went back to school at Southwest Tech, earning her associate’s degree before beginning her 20+ year career with Boscobel Pharmacy. She was known for her hard work ethic, humor, and the friendships she formed there. Coworkers quickly became like family to her.
Sara and Larry loved camping and traveling, visiting many national parks, heading out west, and even taking trips to the Dominican Republic. For about five years, they wintered in Texas as snowbirds, enjoying the warm air and sunshine. Sara started every morning with a cup of black coffee and a crossword puzzle, making sure her puzzle was complete before speaking to anybody, which was an accomplishment because there was hardly a moment in time where she didn’t have anything to say.
Above all, Sara cherished her family. Time with her children and grandchildren were her greatest joys. She was stubborn at times, but her heart was huge, and her big brown eyes and warm smile were contagious.
Sara is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry Strang; four children: Tim (Eliza Leitzinger) Strang, Todd (Danelle) Strang, Tara (Jesse) Wood, and Trina Strang; and 16 grandchildren: McKailah, Nolan, Brooklyn, and Jaidyn Strang, Nathan (Kaitlyn) Strang, Emma Strang, Tucker Schmid-Cox, Aiden Dempsey-Strang, Kaden Strang, Peyton Dempsey, Kennedy (Judah) Fortgang, Liberty, Finley, and Bentley Wood, Boston Flannery, and Daxton Pomerening. She is further survived by her siblings: Linda (Gary Chamberlain) Stephenson, Karen Rosemeyer, Connie (Jim) Gaddie, Dave “Adolph” Leffler, and Tom (Debbie) Leffler; brother in-law Don Peckham; brother and sisters in-law: Michael (Diane) Strang, Jane (Greg) Yahn, and Nancy (John) Devine; her special four legged companion, Charlie; as well as many nieces nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Cambry Wood; brother Maurice Leffler Jr; sister Kristi Peckham; brother in-law James Rosemeyer; and mother and father in-law Robert and Ruth Strang.
