PLATTEVILLE - Joyce E. Cohen, formerly of Lancaster, age 88, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025, at Edenbrook of Platteville. She was born on March 31, 1937, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Frederick and Clara (Johnston) Dietzman. Joyce was united in marriage to Ivan “Ike” Cohen on September 8, 1962, in Montfort.
Joyce graduated from Platteville High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Joyce and Ike moved to Lancaster where she enjoyed babysitting for various families along with being employed at the Winskill School. Along with working as an elementary aide and library assistant, she spent many years as the secretary for the school until her retirement. Joyce liked writing short stories along with poetry. In addition, she and Ike spent countless hours in their garden. She loved helping others in need and adored her family, especially her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her three children: Chris Cohen, Kurt (Becky) Cohen, and Kent (Angie) Cohen; four grandchildren: Sam, Summer, Hanna and Allen (fiancé Hailey Doyle) Cohen; siblings, Purl (Peg) Dietzman and Rita (Arlin) Ratajczak; along with special nieces and nephew: Stacey, Karin, Jennifer, and David. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband Ike on January 14, 2009.
Celebration of Life
A Celebration of Life honoring Joyce will be held May 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church Hall in Lancaster, WI with food and beverages provided.
