BOSCOBEL - Sheri Waterman, age 78, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024. She was born at home on April 25, 1946, the daughter of Allen and Ruth (Peer) Wetter. She grew up in rural Boscobel, Wisconsin. She attended Boscobel High School where she graduated in 1964. Sheri married Bill Waterman on February 14, 1965, at the United Methodist Church in Boscobel, WI.
In 1984, they built their house on Dry Hollow Road with the help of friends and family. The house was built from lumber they logged and sawed themselves. In total, 604 railroad-sized ties were used. The house was featured on the local news.
She worked various jobs in the Boscobel area before starting a business with her husband. Lumber Land LLC is what it would eventually be called. They started logging, before switching to making pallets and then settled on repairing chopper (forage) boxes. In all phases of the business, they worked side by side. Sheri also handled the books after the physical workday was done. The company, also known as Waterman's Forage / Chopper Box Repair & Sales, became a true family business when their son Thad joined them in 1998. Their son Brock and daughter-in-law Becky helped in various non-full-time roles. The business also employed multiple other community members.
Sheri loved family, friends, and above all else her grandkids. She was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She believed in family traditions and spent time to make them happen. For many years she hosted Mother’s Day. She always made time for anyone who needed her. She helped several people at the end of their lives and/or when they were sick. Sheri put others before herself and she did things the right way. She was a member of Boscobel United Methodist Church, now called Back Roads Church, and was a person of faith. Sheri and Bill gave to numerous charities and attended fundraising events in the community. She was also part of a motorcycle group that raised money for charity. Sheri gave blood frequently and was proud that her universal blood type could be used to save newborns.
She loved riding her motorcycle with family and friends. When the kids were younger, they would also ride on behind each parent. She and Bill traveled several times by motorcycle out West, including trips to Sturgis. She loved traveling, especially to Colorado. For her 40th wedding anniversary, she and Bill (along with Charlene and Rodney Boom) visited their son Brock in Australia where he was traveling. In 2022, the family took her and Bill to Colorado for one last trip. She also loved fishing with family. Sheri and her sons were part of mud bogging clubs in Boscobel and Lancaster. Anyone who knows Sheri knows about how well her house and landscaping was maintained. She loved flowers and the birds (hummingbirds, orioles, and more) that would come around the property.
She is survived by her husband Bill; their two sons Thad (Kristy) Waterman and Brock (Becky) Waterman; her brothers Ron (Chris) Wetter, Brad (Vicki) Wetter, and sister Marla Knudson; grandchildren John, Shelby, Kyra, Verity and Atari Waterman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Helen Wetter, sister-in-law Charlene Boom, nephew Aaron Knudson, and niece Eve Foege.
Wear your casual or Harley Davidson attire.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in “Loving Memory of Sheri Waterman” for various special organizations throughout the Boscobel community.
