FENNIMORE/BOSCOBEL – Ray W Bruner, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning November 1, 2024, at his home. He was born on May 15, 1954, the son of Ronald and Irene (Ehlers) Bruner. Ray was united in marriage to Cynthia Kelly on August 31, 1973, in Fayette, IA.
Ray graduated from West Central High School in Maynard, IA in 1972 and moved to Wisconsin in 1975, when Cindy accepted a teaching position. Ray and Cindy farmed in Preston briefly before moving to Boscobel where they raised their family and ran their dairy farm. After selling the dairy herd in 2000, Ray went to work at Gasser’s in Boscobel and then retired from Lands’ End after 20 years. Although he left the farm and moved to Fennimore, Ray remained active with his son on the farm. He loved to drive tractor, including the many family tractors he restored over the years.
Ray loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to attend their events, even if it meant traveling across the country. Ray’s love for family and youth led him to years of coaching Little League and boys basketball. He was an active member of the Boscobel Booster Club and former treasurer for Hickory Grove Township.
Ray had a huge heart and always had a smile on his face and a tune to whistle. He was a great neighbor and a wonderful friend. Ray would do anything for anybody, and his presence will be dearly missed.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife Cindy of Fennimore; two children, Kelly (Chris) Hurda of Mount Horeb and Matthew (Kristi) Bruner of Boscobel; four grandchildren: Mason and Claire Hurda and Tim and Mike Bruner; two sisters, Ronette (Sal) Russo of Rio Rancho, NM, Ava Stamp of Lisbon, IA; brother, Joe (Susie) Bruner of Council Bluffs, IA; brother in-law, Jerry (Yvonne) Holtz of Cumming, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gayela Bruner and Roma Holtz; and brother in-law, Gary Stamp.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local youth organization of your choice.
