Charles “Charlie” R. Sickles

MONTFORT - Charles “Charlie” Russell Sickles, age 37, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning January 6, 2024, at his residence in Montfort. He was born on February 1, 1986, in Platteville; the son of Charles and Jayne (Gundlach) Sickles.

Charlie was the sweetest little child, and many recall him being a little ham known as “Charlie the Chunk”. He always loved being outdoors and enjoyed being in Boy Scouts as a child. He graduated from Iowa-Grant High School in 2004 and entered the work force. Charlie worked at Daleo, which later changed to Skyway Precision in Platteville as a machinist from 2004-2008. Charlie loved music and enjoyed playing in multiple bands as a Bass guitarist and backup singer. His bands played in various places throughout the state. The inquisitive Charlie decided to further his education and follow his passion. He went to college at UW - Platteville and studied zoology and environmental science and later received his bachelor’s degree in biology. He returned to work as a CNC mill operator, working next to his family until 2019. He also enjoyed online gaming, nature, science and was an artistic talent, and collecting watches. He also loved to cook, or maybe that cooking experiment turned to science project. Charlie was a kind soul and a very funny fella with the biggest heart. He loved educating people, especially children. His time was all too short but his love of family and his passions in life will forever be cherished.

Charlie is survived by his mother, Jayne Sickles of Montfort; three siblings: Missy (Phil) Jinkins of Livingston, Jason McIntosh (Jen Warne) of Montfort, and Ani Sickles (Jon Heineman) of Montfort; very special nieces and nephews: Paige and Gavin Jinkins, Jalen Lehman, and Karstyn McIntosh; his two dogs, Fripp and Kilo; paternal grandfather, Russell Sickles of Wapiti, WY; along with his many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins. Charlie is also survived by his brothers from other mother’s: Joey Baker, Jason Lundell, Bob Straka, and Kyle Seyfferth.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father Charles “Chuck” Sickles; paternal grandmother, Leila “Lee” Sickles; maternal grandparents, Charles and Marcene Gundlach; and his dog, Yoshi.
