Stephen R. “Steve” Graney, age 79, of Lancaster, WI passed away on Wednesday May 31, 2023, at his residence in rural Lancaster. He was born on October 30, 1943, the son of Rex and Carol Graney.
Steve graduated from Lancaster High School in 1961. He enlisted in the Navy after high school. On December 29, 1964, he married the love of his life, Colleen K. Wiedenbeck at Bethlehem E&R Church in Lancaster. They left for California a couple of days later for Steve to board the U.S.S. Currituck. He returned to Lancaster four years and four months later at the start of the Vietnam War and worked at Wisconsin Gas Company in Lancaster. Shortly thereafter he purchased the farm just outside of Lancaster and continued to work at Wisconsin Gas Company where he lost his leg in an accident. A short while later, he left the gas company and continued to farm raising hogs for over 50 years. He loved to go fishing and have coffee at “The Office” (Zippy’s) every morning.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Collen; one daughter, Kristin (Frank) Zenz and one son, Theron (Tracy) Graney; four grandchildren; Mikaela (Derek) Tourdout, Austin Zenz, Megan Graney (Colton Knautz) and Tyler Graney, one great-grandchild Marcie, and his siblings Vernon (Ellen) Graney, Ann (Duane) Schleicher, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parent Rex and Carol Graney.
Visitation
Visitation will be held from 8:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning.
Funeral Services
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday June 3, 2023, at the Bethlehem E&R Church in Lancaster.
Burial Services
Burial to follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster with Military Honors.
