Adelia Carol Brechler, 86, of Fennimore joined her beloved husband Claude Brechler in the Lord’s Kingdom on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at her home. Adelia was born March 13, 1936, in the Freymiller family farmhouse in Marion township.
Adelia attended Fennimore High School and was high kicker on the cheer leading squad. She met the love of her life at a local dance and sparks flew. She married Claude on Oct. 19, 1955. She was the epitome of a traditional Wisconsin rural farm housewife with many a twist. She spoke her mind openly and was a leader throughout the community. Adelia was a devout patriot: 50 Years of Service Award for Grant County Federation of Republican Women and an active delegate for Grant County at the Republican State Convention. At the local level, President of Kiwanis in Boscobel, Active member of the Boscobel Hospital Auxiliary, and served on the Marion Township election committee.
Dee embraced family and fun in her talented active life: She authored the Marion News for 45 years, organized many Freymiller, Bender, and Brechler reunions, Tabernacle choir singer, Boscobel HS sports, FFA, and music booster, couples bowling league, and card parties. She lit up events with her laughter, dance, and yodeling. Her sense of fashion and style coordinated the latest trends and were fully accessorized right down to her shoes. She ironed all our clothes, pinning the sleeves together on the hanger, so we always looked amazing when we went to school, Sunday school and church. That woman could wear a hat. She had everybody looking for her next choice of red jacket and elephant pin. Her grandchildren were fascinated by her tchotchke shoe collection and revealed as a baby the first word spoken was the word “shoe”.
Adelia was a dutiful Christian and loved the Marion UCC Church where she was baptized, confirmed, married, baptized, and confirmed her children, and buried her beloved husband. She was current president and active member of the Ladies Aide for 65 years, past secretary of the church council, past president of the YPL, and authored seven church cookbooks.
Mom provided endless joy, warmth, and love to her family as a prideful farmer from the ground up. Bouquets were sent off to teachers on the first day of school. Gardens and farm-to-table fare provided 3 squares a day, and comforting chicken noodle soup. The magic of Christmas celebrated the birth of Jesus with family through songs, decorations, the art of gift giving, gathering her family at the table and baking thousands of cookies. She will always be remembered for her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Troy Brechler of Boscobel; Glee Brechler and husband Mike Knapton of Arena, and Gay (Brechler) Nagle of Fennimore; seven grandchildren, Brad (Jennah) Brechler of Syracuse, Amanda (Matt) Saylor of Dubuque, Cara Brechler of Freeport, Chloë Nagle of Minneapolis, Alliot Nagle of Austin, Claudia Nagle of Houston, Chaska Kray of Fennimore; great-grandchildren, Josiah, Lydia, and Elias Brechler, Porter and Opal Saylor, and Kash Beam. Sister-in-laws, Evelyn Freymiller and Sherry Freymiller of Fennimore; brother-in law, Harry Brechler of Boscobel, many nieces and nephews and their spouses.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Louis J.and Elizabeth (Bender) Freymiller; husband; Claude Brechler, siblings; Edward (Ruby) Freymiller, Harold (Estella) Freymiller, Byron (Betty Freymiller, Leland “Mac” (Eleanor) Freymiller, Bernadine (Herman) Wachter, Mark Freymiller, Lloyd “Tootie” Freymiller, Gilda (Loren) Welsh, Darlene (Paul) Mueller, Bernard Morovitz.
