John “Carter” Tuckwood

John “Carter” Tuckwood, age 92, of Fennimore, WI passed away on Friday November 25, 2022, at the Divine Rehabilitation & Nursing in Fennimore. He was born on February 22, 1930, in Lancaster the son of Dr. Harry and Grace (Edge) Tuckwood. Carter graduated from Fennimore High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army for one year and then he worked at the Savannah Ordinance Plant making ammunition for the war.

In 1952, Carter went farming in the rural Fennimore area and on March 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marilyn James at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore. They continued farming, establishing Cardinal Lane Farms for 45 years until their retirement. Carter loved singing in the church choir, hunting, fishing, dancing, especially square dancing, and music of all kinds.

He and Marilyn were blessed with three children: Pamela (Nelson) Duran, James Carter, and Diane (Greg) Bettin, and one granddaughter Savannah Grace Bettin.

Carter was preceded in death by his three siblings: Dwight, Byron, and Evelyn, his parents, and his father and mother-in-law Willard and Clara James, and three brothers-in-law: William, Robert and Jerry James.

Carter is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, children and granddaughter, and brother-in-law Jim (Sharon) James, and a sister-in-law Dixie (Howard) Miles along with many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Carter’s wishes, a private family service will be held in his honor. Memorials may be giving in loving memory of Carter Tuckwood to the St. Croix Hospice of Platteville or the Divine Nursing & Rehabilitation in Fennimore. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family.
