Joseph “Lewi” James Lewis age 28, of Fennimore passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Joey was born in Dodgeville, WI on May 6, 1994, to Jim L. Lewis and Carol A. Custer. The first part of his life was spent growing up in Linden, WI where he was known for fearlessly racing around on a stunt bike. Eventually, he traded the bicycle for a dirt bike and terrorized the town. In 2004, Joey moved to Fennimore, WI. While attending a local concert, Joey was inspired by and fell in love with the idea of performing hip-hop music, which led to the birth of “Lewi”, the hip-hop artist so many have fallen in love with over the years.
Graduating Fennimore High School in 2013, Lewi then pursued his dream of moving to California to become an artist. While in California, Lewi met every goal he set for himself; not living with the common “risk outweighs the rewards” mentality, he decided he was doing something, and there were no obstacles that could stand in his way. He was fearless and lived each day like it was his last. Along his music journey, Lewi found a newfound passion- inspiring others. He was always fueling his friends and family’s passions and dreams. The desire he held to inspire others and drive dreams into a reality for everyone he met, will forever be unmatched. Lewi never knew a stranger or an enemy, always focusing on creating a positive connection with everyone he encountered. He went out of his way to know people and strived to provide inspiration to all of those around him. His optimism and passion for life were contagious and infected every path he crossed.
Lewi would never use the word “famous” and swore that he was practically unknown in the music industry, but Lewi was loved by thousands of fans. He was forever humbled by people reaching out to him after hearing his story. There was never a single message, text, or letter that did not go straight to his heart.
Joey “Lewi” Lewis is survived by his father Jim L. Lewis of Fennimore; his sister Jessie Nodolf (Shane) and his nieces and nephews Reegan Bahr, Braxton Nodolf, Braelyn Nodolf, and Finn Nodolf of Belmont; his dog Khloe; and his many friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his mother Carol A. Custer; his grandparents Ruth and Arthur Lewis, LaVonne (Bonnie) and Robert Nachtrieb; his dog Daisy Mae Dukes; and many of his fellow fallen Salty Soldiers.
