Marcella Mary Mulrooney

Marcella Mary Mulrooney, age 91, of Mount Hope, passed away on September 15, 2022, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, WI. She was born on February 26, 1931, in Tennyson, WI, daughter of Maynard and Loretta Schmitz.

She was determined to graduate from high school and was salutatorian of her class. She attended Teacher’s College in Platteville, WI, and taught at Military Ridge for a couple of years before starting her family. When the youngest children were in grade school, Marcella became a teacher’s aide at Mount Hope Elementary. She then proceeded to be an aide at West Grant/River Ridge Elementary for many years. She enjoyed a cup of “fresh” coffee with “real” cream. Marcella loved to read, work crossword puzzles, and play scrabble. She belonged to Saint Lawrence O’Toole parish and was active in her community. She was the one who came up with the slogans for the family floats for the annual Mt. Hope Dairy Day parades.

Marcella was united in marriage to Leonard Mulrooney Jr. at Saint Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Mount Hope, WI, on November 17, 1951. Together they had eight children: Tom (Arlene) of Fennimore, Rick of Patch Grove, Dennis (Linda) of Bagley, John of Mount Hope, Mary (Ron) Koenen of Weatherford, TX, Linda (deceased), Dan (Heidi) of Fennimore, and Steve (Julie) of Lancaster. They had 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Marcella is survived by siblings Marion Swab, Carol Parkins, Jim (Marlys) Schmitz, John (Danielle) Schmitz, Joe (Kay) Schmitz, Bob (Connie) Schmitz, as well as In-laws Mary Evan Manhart and Myra Schmitz.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Jr., daughter Linda, great grandson Collin Shisler, parents Maynard and Loretta Schmitz, siblings Jeanette Sweeney and Maynard Jr., and in-laws Roger Swab, Mark Sweeney, and Maurice Parkins.
