Betty E. Schrader

Fennimore, WI-Betty E. Schrader, age 89, of Fennimore died on Tuesday Aug. 21, 2012. Betty was born on April 21, 1923 in Livingston, WI the daughter of Alvin & Lulu (Sturdevant) Knutson. She was united in marriage to Richard Schrader on Aug. 21, 1946 in Springfield, IL.

Following graduation from Montfort High School, Betty worked various jobs until enlisting in the U.S. Army. She was stationed at Arlington Hall in Arlington, VA. and was very proud of being part of the U.S. team that was able to break the Japanese code during WWII. After being honorably discharged, Betty and Richard were married and lived in Springfield, IL. She and Richard moved to Fennimore 1963 where they farmed until purchasing the lumberyard in 1967. In 1976, they sold Schrader Lumber Co. to their son Roger while Betty continued doing the bookkeeping until retiring in 1983. Betty loved bowling, going camping, and playing cards with family and friends. She was a member of the Fennimore United Methodist Church. A special “Thank You” to Rick & Mary Kopp for the loving care and compassion given to our mother through the years.

Betty is survived by her three children; Sandra Schrader of Madison, Roger (Rosemary) Schrader of Milton, Debra (John) Haile of Platteville; four grandchildren; Kristi (David) Laufenberg of Hartland, Patrick (Cindy) Schrader of Cottage Grove, Jennifer Haile of Platteville, and Diana (Monroe) Colson of Platteville, five great grandchildren, one brother; Curtis (Myrtle) Knutson of Madison, one sister; Bernice (John) Novotny of Mesa, AZ.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Richard on March 14, 2000, four sisters; Luella Novotny, Evelyn Johns, Elvira Peterson, Doris Wells and two brothers; Everett and Calvin Knutson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church in Fennimore, WI with burial to follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Wingville Township, Grant Co., WI with Military Honors. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Saturday morning. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family.
