Gayle D. Napp, age 88, of Fennimore, died peacefully at home on Sunday July 15, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Gayle was born on June 22, 1924 in rural Boscobel, WI, the youngest child of Joseph V. and Gertrude (Nice) Staskal. She was united in marriage to Mark Napp on September 14, 1949 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Gayle and Mark lived on the family farm south of Fennimore until Mark’s retirement in 1985 when they moved to town. Gayle graduated from Platteville State Teachers College with a degree in math and science education. She taught high school in Sparta, Livingston, and Iowa Grant and middle school in Lancaster, retiring in 1986. Gayle’s greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and teaching her students. She enjoyed quilting, baking pies, going to craft fairs, and taking trips with Mark. She loved to golf, downhill ski, and play cards with her many friends. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, WELCA, Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Ladies.
Gayle will be sadly missed by her husband of 63 years, two sons, Stephen (Kathy) Napp of Fennimore, Scott (Jean) Napp of Stitzer, 4 grandchildren, David Johnson of Dubuque, IA, Bethany (Brian) McLain of Tomah, WI, John Napp and Jacob Napp, both of Stitzer, WI, and one great-granddaughter, Raelyn Johnson of Dubuque, IA. She is also survived by one brother, Glendon (Helen) Staskal of Boscobel, a sister Ruth (Ralph) Baumeister of Mt. Horeb, WI, and many nieces and nephews.
Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Staskal of Boscobel, and one in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday July 19, 2012 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Charles Miller will be officiating. Friends and family may call from 4-7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening July 18, 2012 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M until the time of services at the Church on Thursday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church Raise the Roof fund.
