Kenneth L. Harris

Kenneth HarrisKenneth L. Harris, age 87, of Cobb died on Saturday morning June 30, 2012 at Upland Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dodgeville. Kenny was born on Aug. 20, 1924 in Marietta Township, Wauzeka, WI the son of Walter and Nora (Pomerening) Harris.  He married Marian Payne on Dec. 8, 1945 in Wauzeka, WI.

Following high school, Kenny worked as a cheese maker at Borden’s Cheese Warehouse in Cobb, WI.  After the closing of Borden’s, Kenny became involved in car sales with Swenson and Son’s in Boscobel, WI until his retirement in 1999.  Kenny was a member of the Cobb United Methodist Church; serving on the church board for several years. In addition, he also served on the board of the Cattleman’s Association, volunteered with the Cobb Fire Department where he enjoyed cooking chicken at the annual chicken barbeque held during the Cobb Corn Broil, and played an instrumental part in the starting of Black Hawk Lake Recreation Area. Kenny enjoyed spending his time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, golfing, and raising cattle on the Harris farm until selling the property in 1988. He also took an interest in the raising and management of the pheasant population in southwest Wisconsin. When not outside, Kenny enjoyed bowling where he is a member of the Southwestern WI USBC Hall of Fame, playing euchre, making his own wine, and cheering on the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers. Kenny had an endless love for his family and friends and his infectious smile and unique laugh will always be remembered.

Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Judy (Jim) Marcum, and Darcy (Rick) Perrin, both of Verona, WI, granddaughters; Amanda Marcum-Cooper and husband Scott Cooper of Washington D.C., Erica Perrin of Washington D.C., and Haley Perrin of Madison, WI, and very special friends Roger and Eileen Fingerson of Cobb, WI.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Marian on Oct. 12, 2010, and brothers; Calvin and Darwin “Dude” Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday July 7, 2012 at the Cobb United Methodist Church in Cobb, WI.  Pastor Gary Benschawel will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M until the time of services at the church on Saturday morning. A private burial of cremated remains will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday July 8, 2012 in the Wauzeka Cemetery, Wauzeka, WI.  In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund has been established in Kenny’s loving memory. The Soman-Larson Funeral Home of Montfort is assisting the family.  The family would like to send a special thank you to Melody Farmer and the staff at Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Dodgeville, and Dr. Mark Hughes of Upland Hills Health for their wonderful compassion and care.
